Eurovision is the highlight of my year. For the last 15 years, the second weekend in May has become more important to me than Christmas. If I was ever on Mastermind, Eurovision would be my specialist subject.

For me, this contest is more than just a competition. It’s a gloriously quirky, fun, welcome respite from the shittiness of the world.

A little knowledge about the Eurovision Song Contest (or ESC) goes a long way toward enjoying the spectacle. If you’ve not watched it before (or even if you have), you’re definitely going to want to after reading this.
